In a city that rarely slows down, Delhiites have perfected the art of escaping the hustle—often with nothing more than a good cup of coffee and the right kind of café. But sometimes, the perfect café isn’t just about what’s on the menu. It’s about where you’re sitting while you eat it. Enter the courtyard café: the city’s answer to dining that feels laid-back, relaxed, and complete with lush greens.

Tucked in bustling markets, hidden inside heritage spots, or nestled within leafy compounds, the capital’s best courtyard cafés offer something rare in a city like this—space to breathe. Think sun-dappled tables, climbing vines, and conversations that stretch way longer than planned. Whether you’re meeting friends for brunch, escaping for a coffee in your lonesome, or settling in for a long, lazy lunch, these outdoor courtyards turn a simple café visit into a much better experience.

If you’re looking for places where good coffee and great food meet beautiful open-air spaces, these courtyard cafés across the capital deserve a spot on your list.

Roastery Coffee House

For those who take their coffee very seriously, Roastery Coffee House is one of Delhi’s most exciting speciality cafés. Founded in 2017 with the aim of bringing high-quality, ethically sourced Indian coffee to a wider audience, Roastery has now become a go-to for freshly roasted beans, precision brewing methods, and relaxed café spaces. They also claim that they are the space that’s responsible for having invented cranberry coffee!

The café is particularly known for its speciality coffee menu, with options ranging from single-origin pour-overs and aeropress brews to creamy espresso-based offerings, affogatos, and cold brews in numerous funky flavours. One of its most talked-about signatures is the Cranberry Coffee, of course, a refreshing espresso drink with cranberry and sparkling notes. Alongside the coffee, the menu features a healthy mix of café dishes—everything from avocado toast, grilled chicken salad and spinach-and-corn sandwiches to pasta, burgers, and absolutely delicious desserts.

Their courtyard-style seating and open, airy layout make it a great place to slow down and catch a breather in the city, alongside lots of greenery and even fairy lights in the evening. The constant aroma of freshly ground beans in the air just adds the cherry on top.

Diggin

Few cafés in Delhi have become as instantly recognisable as Diggin, thanks to its whimsical courtyard setting, comforting European café fare, and cottage-core interior and exteriors. Spread across multiple locations in the city, the café is especially loved for its lush garden-style seating, fairy lights, climbing plants, and cosy wooden furniture, creating the feeling of a charming European patio far, far away from where we actually are. My personal favourite is the Bikaner House outpost.

Diggin specialises in Italian and continental comfort food, with a menu featuring handmade pastas, stone-baked pizzas, salads, and sandwiches. Popular picks include their pesto pasta, chicken schnitzel, garden pizza, creamy ravioli, fried chicken sandwich, chicken lasagna, and zucchini fries (a better, healthier option than regular fries). For dessert lovers, the best menu items include the tiramisu, Belgian waffles, and cheesecakes.

This one’s exactly the kind of place where a quick coffee is most definitely likely to turn into a longer meal, thanks to just how cutesy the space is!

Carnatic Cafe

Located inside one of Delhi’s best gardens and heritage spots, Sunder Nursery, Carnatic Cafe is a great pick for a courtyard-style dining experience in the capital, right in the midst of this nursery. The café sits on a wooden deck overlooking greenery and a small waterbody, with tables surrounded by trees, birds, and the park’s quiet calm—far removed from the city’s usual bustle.

The menu focuses on authentic South Indian vegetarian tiffin fare, for which Carnatic Cafe is quite popular in the city. Crowd favourites include the Benne Masala Dosa and the Malleshwaram 18th Cross Dosa, a fluffy podi-laden dosa inspired by Bengaluru’s legendary eateries. You’ll also find classics like idli, vada, ragi dosa, and Bisi Bele Bath, all served with delicious chutneys and sambar. And of course, no meal here is complete without their frothy filter coffee served in a traditional steel davara.

Part café, part escape, Carnatic Cafe is ideal for a post-walk breakfast, a brunch, or just a quiet afternoon coffee after exploring Sunder Nursery.

Address: Lake Side, Sundar Nursery, opposite Humayun’s Tomb, Nizamuddin, National Zoological Park, Sundar Nagar, New Delhi, Delhi 110003

Timings: Monday to Sunday (8 am–9 pm)

Cafe Dori

Tucked inside the Dhan Mill Compound in Chhatarpur, Cafe Dori is one of South Delhi’s most relaxed courtyard cafés—equal parts design studio, lifestyle store, and café. The space is part of the Nappa Dori retail concept and is set inside a restored warehouse reimagined as a café and lifestyle hub, creating a distinctly industrial, edgy, and laid-back atmosphere.

While the indoor space is minimal, the café also features an outdoor courtyard with seating surrounded by lots of greenery, making it a great spot to unwind (with a coffee in hand, of course). It helps that the Dhan Mill complex itself feels tucked away from the city’s usual chaos, making the cafe all the more relaxing and quiet. It’s also one of the few cafés in Delhi that’s pet-friendly, even offering special treats and meals for dogs, which is really the best part!

On the menu, Cafe Dori focuses on European-inspired comfort food and all-day breakfast dishes. Popular picks include the pumpkin ravioli, wild mushroom pasta, flatbreads, truffle mac and cheese, and garlic fries, along with brunch favourites like eggs Benedict, avocado toast, and croissants. Coffee lovers will also appreciate the strong beverage menu, which ranges from classic espresso drinks to matcha lattes and indulgent hot chocolate.

The Grammar Room

Located near Delhi’s iconic Qutub Minar, The Grammar Room is a café that’s far removed from the city’s usual hustle and bustle. Known for its calm, sunlit setting, the space opens out into a beautiful garden courtyard surrounded by ample greenery, it’s popular for being one of the most relaxing places in Delhi to settle in for a long brunch. The outdoor seating, dotted with wooden tables and shaded corners, creates the feeling of a hidden café patio.

The menu leans heavily into all-day brunch and modern café comfort food, which is exactly what the place has become known for. Regulars swear by dishes like the avocado toast, shakshouka, fluffy pancakes, and eggs Benedict, along with wholesome bowls and fresh salads. Their French toast and breakfast platters are also popular for those looking for something indulgent, while the coffee program—ranging from classic espresso drinks to cold brews—makes it an easy pick as well. It also helps that for brunch and all things coffee, The Grammar Room is among Delhiites’ top picks!
